Classic Martini

It's all about the gin.

My husband swears by Hendricks but I quite like the  Badland Seaberry by the new Strathcona Distillery in Edmonton, used with the native seaberry of Alberta.

Don't cheap out on the vermouth either, but here in northern Alberta, it's slim pickings. Martini and Rossi will have to do. However we recently picked up some Dolin on a trip to New York, and its bright citrus taste creates a lovely drink.

And how much vermouth? The brother-in-law prefers just a drop. Mother-in-law has a little atomizer she uses, just to coat the ice cubes with a hint of vermouth. But then, really, aren't you just drinking gin?

Ingredients

2 oz gin
a capful of dry vermouth
(Some recipes call this 6:1)

Method

Place your ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice and shake gently. Garnish with two vermouth soaked olives on a cocktail pick. My brother-in-law uses a lemon rind.  I guess that's another way to go.

Accompaniments

In our house, it's smoked oysters and stone wheat thins although a little gravlax on a cracker is delish.
